World-leading Electric Technology

At ZeroJet we design, engineer and manufacture electric systems providing sustainable and reliable solutions.

Our systems are designed and built by world-class engineers, adding a quality that is consistent with your brand.

We invest heavily in design, development and testing, including the building of our own electric motors and bespoke jet pumps. This allows us to produce our electric jet systems to the high-quality standards required to operate reliably in harsh environments.

Product Technology

Electric components and systems that meet the needs of customers globally. Designed and engineered in-house by our experts.

ZeroJet Electric Motor

Electric Motors

Generating continuous power in an electric motor presents a significant challenge due to the amount of heat created, but the ZeroJet team overcame this through the development of an innovative closed loop cooling path. The result is a motor unit which is 61% lighter and 33% smaller per kW than existing motors on the market, giving significant performance advantages. The motor is optimised to run at the comparatively lower speeds required by the jet pump, and the simple drive line is direct drive with no gearbox which minimises maintenance.

Jet pump

Efficiency is essential when going electric. ZeroJet’s pump is specifically designed and optimised for the high-torque of an electric motor. The pump has been tuned for small boats which often travel at slower speeds (<20 knots). Traditional jet pumps are built for high-speeds and have poor efficiency at lower speeds – this is not the case with the ZeroJet system.

Battery Packs and Battery Management System (BMS)

We chose the safest type of battery cell chemistry on the market for our system and use quality third-party Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries which are mounted in our in-house built waterproof cases for protection.

The Super B batteries in our systems are rated to 3,500 charge cycles at 100% Depth of Discharge (DoD). The 5 kWh battery pack (which can be split) weighs approximately 50 kg, and the 10 kWh pack (one brick) is around 100 kg.

Our BMS monitors current and throttle input for safe operation, provides critical information on battery health and performance to optimise energy usage, and monitors the battery’s temperature to ensure it stays within safe limits.

Helm and console throttle (select systems)

The ZeroJet helm and console throttle with traditional lever operation is an electronic and mechanical unit. The electrical output signal controls the speed of the motor for forward and reverse function, while the mechanical output of the throttle controls the lowering and lifting of the reverse bucket with a cable.

The throttle level has a neutral lock position to eliminate accidental movement, and the main power-on switch is located on the base of the unit, together with the kill cord attachment point.

This assembly can be mounted on left or right side of console to best suit your vessel.

Tiller (select systems)

The ZeroJet tiller setup is perfect for smaller or open boats which don’t have a console and where maximising space is paramount.  The tiller can be mounted at any height or distance on the transom and is not fixed to a certain location.  The easy-to-connect cables allow you to quickly install the tiller as part of the electric jet boat system.

Tiller height can easily be adjusted by the driver and the reverse engagement lever is located on the tiller. The throttle is a standard twist throttle, making operation very intuitive compared to traditional outboards, and the kill cord attachment point is located on top of the tiller.

Cabling

To overcome corrosion, humidity & moisture, we use plastics, non-corrosive materials, & extremely high-quality IP-rated connectors, which are easy to secure and release. We provide high quality cables to and from the battery boxes and the propulsion unit.

The System Hub

The Zerojet Hub is the main communication interface between the jet unit, batteries, and the display and it connects all parts of the system with 4 CAN bus cables (M12). All connectors are waterproof, and the Hub is rated to IP68.

The Hub monitors all sub-systems and always ensures safe operation.  If any anomalies are detected, the system will enter a safe mode or shut down and show warning or errors messages on the display screen.

This Hub can be mounted anywhere which best suits your vessel and design- all our team needs to know is what length cables you require.

The Hub also contains the charger plug to charge the batteries, and it can provide 2 x 12V output for auxiliary equipment like navigational lights. It has a built in GPS which shows speed and calculated range on the display screen.

Single jet unit for simplified installation

Our electric jet units are factory assembled and tested prior to sending for installation into hulls. The ZeroJet motor and pump assembly is a single unit and can simply be bolted to a single hull mounting face, without the need for liquid sealant. All complex electrical assembly is completed in-house by ZeroJet, allowing customer integration without any required specialist electrical expertise.
